Shelburne Lake House
The Lake House project located on the bay in Shelburne is situated on a gradual sloping narrow site facing west with spectacular views of Shelburne Point and the Adirondack Mountains beyond. This site has clusters of large white pine trees that flank either side of the building's footprint creating a natural structural context.
Our goal was to compose an environmentally sensitive design solution that joins structure and land to result in a sureness of place that is stronger for the union. The desire was to forge a sense of place through the precise placement of the building as well as to use a careful selection of materials that would reflect a harmonious alliance with the landscape. The intention was to create one large living space focused on the lake views with service spaces flowing in and out of the living space while simultaneously creating separate levels for private areas. Lastly, we wanted to reveal the beautiful aspects of the site, namely the breathtaking views.
